A wonderful little black comedy and a very atypical zombie movie. Imagine something along the lines of Lassie meets Night of the Living Dead directed by Tim Burton, and you sort of have Fido. Directed by Andrew Currie with fine performances by Carrie-Anne Moss, Tim Blake Nelson, Dylan Baker, and Billy Connolly in the title role as the most emotional and lovable zombie in movie history.
The stereotypical 1950s American suburban setting is depicted so uber-harmoniously 'normal' that it actually manages to come off as more disturbing than the presence of partially domesticated zombies taking care of the mundane chores of everyday life. At times it’s absolutely hilarious, sometimes a little static. Not for everybody, but if you’re looking for a movie with a very untraditional take on the zombie phenomenon (much more so than Shaun of the Dead), you might find Fido to be just the thing.
Verdict: 4 out of 6 cockroaches
